Review 2: At first I was unsure if I was going to be able to get through this collection of short stories. Although I must admit that these issues are every cultures issues. Okparanta, gives great incite into Nigerian women. The book looks at mother/daughter relationships, physical and mental abuse, homosexual relationships, and infidelity. Her writing is so passionate that in each story, I actually felt what the character appeared to be feeling. Each of the ten stories relates an issue in the life of a female protagonist. Review 1: Okparanta's short stories blew me away. ![]() ![]() ![]() The franchise rights have since shifted from Marvel to Simon & Schuster's imprint Gallery 13, but no further adaptations have been greenlit. Unfortunately, Marvel stopped at that point, never adapting the entire saga. Marvel continued to publish more Dark Tower miniseries after that, exploring more of Roland's hidden years leading up to the original Dark Tower novel and then adapting both The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three. That story culminates in The Dark Tower: The Battle of Jericho Hill, which chronicles the titular battle that destroys the kingdom of Gilead and sparks Roland's quest for the Dark Tower. That initial series was followed up by four more comic book miniseries that continue where the flashback leaves off and explore more of Roland's formative years. Basically an adaptation of the flashback portion of Wizard and Glass, The Gunslinger Born helps visualize a world that previously only existed in prose form and in a handful of painted illustrations. Both Ash and Embry’s emotions and desires were pretty clear in this book, even without their perspectives. This book is told entirely from Greer’s point of view, and while most of the time I like to get others’ perspectives, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything without it. Embry is a bit more of a mystery, and I hope we learn more about him in the next book. Ash is so patient and honest with Greer, and I truly felt their love was real. Even the times when it was difficult, she asked the questions that needed to be answered. One of the things I loved was how Greer constantly spoke her mind. You feel for these characters immediately.
